Healthy Overnight Oats Jars

IMG_1503Is anyone else the most ‘phasey’ breakfast-eater on the planet? seriously, one month i’ll religiously eat porridge and peanut butter, the next i’ll be having omelettes, then Weetbix, then yogurt and the one after that i’ll be back to my childhood scraping Vegemite over freshly buttered white bread. Anyway… I used to absolutely love overnight oats, made them every single night before bed and would dream about them instead of my current crush. The texture (and probably look for that matter) is definitely a little weird – but don’t knock it til’ you try it!

Making things in jars is so satisfying – and thus this project made me feel like a real ‘Pinterest Queen’. This recipe is enough to make one jars (I used the K-Mart ones which are $2 each) and are one serving per jar. Obviously this means just get our your calculator or do some mental maths if you want to bulk-make them.


They’re so good for people who like to prepare food on Sunday afternoon for the next few days. I say few days and not week because I literally cannot fathom how people meal-prep for that long… the food starts to creep me out after three days.

I had one of the pictured ones for breakfast this morning and they certainly keep you full from breakfast until lunch (mind you I had a coffee and tea-biscuit too). The whole jar is around 400 calories (but all good calories at that). They take all of about 20 minutes to make including set-up and pack-down and take all of about 5 SECONDS to grab from the fridge in the mad-rush to the train station.

Anyway here’s the recipe…


  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1T chia seeds
  • 15 dry roasted unsalted almonds
  • 1/2 cup Greek Yoghurt (0%) – I used Chobani
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 1T Pepitas
  • 1–2T Honey
  • 1/2 cup Berries of your choice – I used frozen mixed


  1. Put the oats, chia seeds, water, honey and yoghurt into the jar and mix
  2. Optional: if you want your finished product to look pretty tap the jar a couple of times on the bench to flatten out the mixture and then wipe around the inside of the jar using your finger inside a damp clean cloth.
  3. Sprinkle the chopped almonds on top.
  4. Pour the berries in
  5. Sprinkle the pepita seeds on top.
  6. Add more honey to serve if you want (I’m really used to greek yoghurt and it’s lack of sweetness but if you’re used to a sweeter yoghurt more honey would be better for you)
  7. Leave in the fridge for 2-3 hours (preferably overnight)
